Its a good thing Mr. Smith refused to let the Bykota Center go back to its rightful place as an Elementary School. He may have use of that very center in the near future! It seems that maybe some of his underhanded ways are getting the best of him and his health. What goes around, comes around!

Hey Jimmy, WAKE UP! You live such a sheltered existence. Maybe there was inadequate attention to the prisoners because you can't hire any CO's. Your department heads are squeezing the few remaining to death with forced OT because of the inability of the county to hire yet alone retain people. As for the police department it was nice of you to show a kudos by saying, "yea we have a good clearence rate but it is because they were easy cases" to paraphrase. Yea you really showed your appreciation by stiffing us out of a COLA during one of the more trying times in recent history and the county yet again posts a surplus, almost a 1/4 of a billion dollars but we couldn't afford 2 million to give a 3 percent increase to wages. Wow! We actually have a County Executive? I guess he showed up because a camera was present. One can only point to his accomplishments or lack thereof to understand that we've had an absentee County Executive. Oh yes, we patched roads, repaired schools, etc. like any other Executive but where's the economic development? What happened to the Bio-Tech park invisioned by the prior Executive. What happened to the business park on route 43 started by the previous Executive? We certainly took enough overseas trips at taxpayer expense but where are the results? And how about his support for County employees, teachers and our police force. He implemented the worst retirement plan in the State, maybe the Country, and snubbed our teachers and fine police force. Thank goodness for term limits! And he wants to run for another office!? What a laugh.

With the exception of Councilman Johnny O.,Smith and the County council must be illiterate,they do not comprehend the meaning of binding arbitration. Support you local Police !

The Good Ol' Boy Network is alive and well in Baltimore County! I'd say it's time for term limits on all elected positions in BCo. There should be some ethics laws to cut down on nepotism, like in many private companies.

Republican jealousy. They are all qualified and appointed. Blame Derlick for the hidden deficit and his embezzling affiliated crew , the crime and funds he with held, don't blame the council for everything, whiner. If Brown and Dixon have appointed positions that relatives qualify for, is say GO FOR IT.

The county council has to go!! They have obviously lost sight of the fact that they are the 'checks and balances' in this county led astray by the likes of Homan and Smith. WAKE UP! DO YOUR JOBS! If your name is Mohler, you can just about make up a job in Baltimore County, for Smith! Also, the man was a liquor distributor for most of his career; little or no experience in this position. Nepotism, approved by O'Malley, certainly.

Sears, the article's author, appears to no longer be affiliated with the Times' papers. How is this possible? Was the article pulled intentionally? There is a story here, please follow-up.

The Homan/Berger way of doing business by hiring family and friends for important positions, such as Claims Manager, must be spreading thoughout County Government. Let the good times roll. Does the County Council still exist and exercise any oversight?

Jim Smith is taking the county down the same path the city and state has gone, nepotism and cronyism. We all see quite clearly what that has done for the city. We cannot let the good old boy system do to the county what has been done to the state and city. With Jim it's all about politics and personal power. There are many well qualififed people working for our county. Hire them instead of the political hacks.

How about experience counting for something? Promote from within. Many code enforcement people would probably be much more qualified AND work for less taxpayers money.

The Executive has th right to appoint a position. Agter all he is County Executive. The Mohler is very well educated it seems and experienced in the field on the board. Hey I will take the job of supervisor, legal assistants can research codes, just as well as any. How much does the position pay? Is there health insurance? Is it too late for retirement program at my age? It would save the county funds to hire the elders, saves in retirement. I will be looking for the posting, or better yet just appoint me. DB
