Military recruiting continues to soar

I would like to talk to someone regarding this article. My son enlisted with the understanding that upon completing his active duty he would receive $10,000 to pay off student loans he had incurred prior to signing up. He has completed his term of duty and has lived up to his end of the deal only to be given the run around from the Marines and no payment has been made to date. We have been trying all avenues over the past year to get this resolved and noone wants to get involved. They keep blaming my son for not getting the appropriate signatures before leaving the base. Although I feel this was a great plan to get individuals to enlist at a time of need I'm not convinced that the money is not being distributed as the article leads one to believe. And the problem is? I do not see anything wrong with offering bonuses for joining the military. My son is in NROTC, and I applaud him for taking that step for his country. So what is your point? This reflects a "market" economy, since there are choices that an individual has to make about their career, so why shouldn't the military have the same vehicles such as a "signing bonus" to lure the best candidates for our military? What is the converse of this? Hamstring our armed forces with no ability to attract the best and just let them end up with, not to be detremental about it, but not the best? I want the best men and women who are dedicated to protecting this great country of ours, our freedom, our way of life. So why not give them the tools to be able to do this.
