The tentative settlement creates 2,500 new union jobs, including extending union recognition to 600 former MCI technicians who sought representation for nearly two years. The agreement also preserves fully-paid health care premiums for all active and retired employees.
The two unions represent approximately 65,000 employees in the company’s Verizon Telecom group in 10 states and Washington, D.C. More than 12,000 Verizon employees work in Maryland, of which about 6,600 are union members.
