S.F. woman runs over, kills 4-year-old in Las Vegas

I WULD LIKE TOO SAY THAT I HAVE KNOW THEM SINCE THEE 9TH GRADE AND I FEEL THAT THEY ARE GOOD PEOPLE AND DIDNT MEAN NO HARM AND I FEEL THAT U SHULD FREE THEM!!! THEY WERE IN COLLEGE DOING WATS RIGHT AND IF THEY WERE PULLED OVER FOR NO REASON THEN LET THEM GO!!! WE SO MISS U GUYS!! TAKE CARE AND STAY STRONG!!! WE R ALL HERE FOR U!!!

Just for the record, these were not basketball playing students, at least it wasn't where they were great, they played football. I personally knew these kids. I dated one of them, and if you knew them back then, they weren't like this. They too had big dreams to go to college. But somewhere down the road, life turned against them, and they turned there backs on life and said screw it. I knew these kids, these are kids with good hearts. They don't need to go to prison, they need attention, and help succeeding.

This is clearly a case of not calling a MAT Team which would have been appropriate and, instead, letting the police use tactics that were clearly more dangerous to everyone. By not getting out of the way, and letting trained experts in mental illness handle the woman, the situation was made worse. If they were so concerned for themselves and others, they should have evacuated the area and let the experts handle the woman. As I understand it, the woman asked to be left alone. She clearly felt that SHE was in danger in some way. Do the police know what she was thinking? Do they have extensive training in handling the mentally ill? I think not! Just so you know, I have a family member who is mentally ill and on medication so I know what happens when these people feel threatened. They can't think as we do. They are mentally ill for heaven sake!

Anthony Defils is my brohter in law and ive known him for five years. He is not the type of person to do this crime. His family and I are out raged and infurated to see this artical in the in the paper. We did not know this artical was going to be in the paper nethier did anthony and we feel there are greater crimes being commited and we feel this is a waste of ink. these kids were all very good and well manered kids but i guess bad circumstances lead to bad decisons. i hope they are released as soon as possible because they already learned their lesson.

Balboa High is doing well now. Why is it so important to have in large print, "Former Balboa Students?" Is there a reason their former school must be mentioned? The crimes didn't even occur in SF and they are nout current students of Balboa. This contributes to giving schools a bad reputation that they often don't deserve.

The Highway 280 death took place in Glen Park. The Holly Park death took place in Bernal Heights. The Excelsior deserves more police coverage, but mislabeling murder sites simply makes gentrified neighborhoods sound safer than they really are.

If the woman (who is not elderly, but is a mental health patient) brandished a knife from close quarters, she was scary. A knife goes through a vest. Unless you are in plate armour, a knife will go through. I'm glad the police officer is ok.

1) Senior Citizen in title is out of line - Since when is mid 50s "Elderly". i've know marathon runners in their 50s and 60s. This was not a 90 yr old in a wheel chair, which is the impression the headline makes 2) SF cops dont have tazers because SJPD tazered someone who died because of an unknown heart problem & SF gov is more concerned of law suits than officer safety so the gun was the officers only choice 3) Bullet-proof vest do NOT stop knives, what should the cop have done? "Put down the knife maam" -stab stab- "please maam" 4) If the unstalbe lady was willing to threaten her social worker and the cops, she was dangerous to the others living in the home. They were also "mental health patients" who in their own world, may not have realized the threat before they were dead. The women was unstable and dangerous and the officers did their job, protecting the people of that neighborhood from someone willing to attack. And yet I bet no one ever thanks that cop.

Excuse me but wasn't there a proposal that identifed gang members and then wanted to get a court order to keep them out of specific geographic areas, and this Supervisor along with others said it was racial profiling? Please someone STOP THE MADNESS!! You get what you vote for, in this case its elected district Supervisors who tie the hands of the police so they can never do there jobs! Get a clue and vote these jokers out of office this Novemeber.

Great record for macho police and poor little councilor who couldn't handle an old lady telling him to get out. He couldn't let her get away with THAT, now, could he? Why didn't everyone just leave her alone like she wanted? Nah, too easy- and no fun.

excuse my language, but if she was mentally ill, she wouldn't have known she just got shot dead by the po-po. this incident isn't suppose to be hilarious but the mentally ill have no clue what's going on anyway. now her family will sue the city for millions and jillions.

Why don't our cops have Tasers? This mentally ill woman may not have been shot if Taser was used. Cops should have Tasers but San Francisco Police apparently don't have them. Who is in charge of such matters?

With all these guns confiscated, if the City DA doesn't clamp down on them and prevent them from a life of crime, Kamala might as well court each and every one of them, comfort them, that they're get away with light sentences. If let go, they're on their way to a killing field. Then it's too late.

This story warmed my heart. This man has avenged those of us who were hapless victims of Muni theft. (Me=2 times on the dirty 38L). Too bad we can't release the criminal for a public stoning and set him as an example for the rest of the Muni theives. Woohoo, go old man!

Now with all this hard work apprehending the thief, let's see if the San Francisco District Attorney's Office can successfully and willfully prosecute this scumbag. I am not to impressed with the DA's office especially from the top and their unsuccessful or unwulligness to prosecute criminals in the city of San Francisco. Wonder why crims is on the rise especially homicide and violent crime? It's not the fault of the police side of law enforcement, it's the fault of the mayor's office (Santuary City) are you kidding me? You might as well welcome hispanic gangs to run the city with that proclamation. We have already seen the results first hand with the brutal assassination of three inncoent family members amongst many others. Then you have the San Francisco's Juvenile Crime Unit repatriating drug dealers who are not juveniles but adults claiming to be juveniles and since they are illegal aliens, have no documentation.
