A judge has delayed the sentencing for Michael S. Gorbey, who was convicted this summer of carrying a loaded shotgun, samurai sword and gunpowder near the Capitol in January.

Judge Gregory Jackson said Friday that the sentencing report he received was “totally unhelpful” and postponed sentencing to Aug. 15, when another report could be drafted. He did not specify why the report was problematic.

At his arrest, Gorbey claimed he was heading to a meeting with Chief Justice John Roberts. He was wearing a flak jacket, and police found a crude bomb and a crossbow in his car. A jury convicted him of possession of firearms and creating a weapon of mass destruction, and he could face decades of jail time.

Gorbey, who represented himself during his trial, also requested Friday that Jackson dismiss his court-appointed attorney.
