Danfoss Inc. will transfer more than 230 employees to a 46,200-square-foot building to be constructed by St. John Properties. The building will meet U.S. Green Building Council LEED certification. The company joins 12 others at the 1,000-acre business park.
“Baltimore County is particularly pleased that Danfoss and St. John Properties recognize the synergies between quality development and environmental responsibility,” county executive Jim Smith said in a statement.
Maryland ranks 14th on Forbes list
Maryland fell two spots to rank 14th on Forbes.com’s annual ranking of the best states for business, while neighboring Virginia topped the list for the third straight year.
The rankings, released Thursday, measured states on areas including business costs, labor supply, regulatory environment, economic climate, quality of life and growth prospects.
Maryland ranked 40th for business costs, ninth for labor supply, 26th for regulatory environment, 16th for economic climate, 15th for growth prospects, and 14th for quality of life.
Utah, Washington, North Carolina and Georgia rounded out the top five states.
Ore Pharmaceuticals announces $4.7M Q2 loss
Gaithersburg-based firm Ore Pharmaceuticals narrowed its second-quarter losses to $4.7 million from $7.9 million a year before, the company announced.
In the first half, Ore Pharmaceuticals saw a net loss of $11.6 million, an improvement on losses of $18 million from the first half of 2007.
The company said it had $17.8 million in cash, cash equivalents and marketable securities available, down from $32.8 million Dec. 31. Ore said it expects to spend half of the $15 million it spent during the first six months of the year.
Tilley Chemical named Top Tier Marketer
Baltimore-based Tilley Chemical Co. has achieved Top Tier Marketer status from ConocoPhillips Co. for exceeding quality, safety and environmental operations standards, the company has announced.
The recognition is awarded to a select number of ConocoPhillips Lubricants distributors who exceed the company’s Marketer Operations Standards practices.
“We appreciate being recognized by our supplier for our efforts to improve safety and maintain product integrity,” Wayne Haviland, Tilley general manager of lubricants, said in a statement.
