The boyfriend of a woman found dead alongside a road outside of Aberdeen is in police custody in connection with her death.

Maryland State Police on Friday arrested Tyrone L. Wiggins, 48,  at his apartment on West Bel Air Avenue, charging him with first- and second-degree murder for the shooting death of 41-year-old Jodie S. Davis, said State Police spokesman Greg Shipley.

Investigators said they believe Davis had been at Wiggins’ apartment on Tuesday night and early the morning hours Wednesday, where Wiggins allegedly shot her with a handgun, Shipley said.

Her body was found stuffed into a sleeping bag on the side of Bush Chapel Road on Wednesday.

Police say they recovered Davis’ car in Aberdeen, but not the gun believed used in the homicide. Investigators are searching Wiggins’ vehicle, which they believe he used to take Davis' body to the city’s edge, Shipley said.

Bloody clothes were recovered from a dumpster near Wiggins’ apartment.

The motive for the homicide remains unclear, police said. Wiggins was being held without bail.
