State police Thursday used fingerprints to identify the woman whose body was found in Aberdeen as Jodie S. Davis, 41, of Clayton Street in Aberdeen.

The Office of the State Medical Examiner has ruled her death a homicide; the determined she died from a gunshot wound.

State Police spokesman Greg Shipley said there did not appear to be any evidence of sexual assault or other foul play — Davis was still fully-clothed when she was found inside the sleeping bag.

A motorist reported seeing the bag Wednesday at the side of the road in the 400 block of Bush Chapel Road, and police discovered Davis’ body inside.

Because the body was found outside city limits, the investigation was turned over to state police, said Aberdeen Police Sgt. Fred Budnick.

He said the body was found on the property of an Aberdeen city employee, but Shipley said the property owner was not being considered a suspect at this time. Police have not yet named any suspects or motives in Davis’ shooting.

The proximity to Interstate 95 meant investigators could not rule out that the body had been dumped there and could have been there as early as 6 a.m., Shipley said.

Davis’ death is the fourth homicide in Harford this year.

State police investigated another death along I-95 in April, when Alan Zurita, 29, was fatally shot during a botched robbery in a moving car.
