Annapolis police Thursday said they are investigating an unusual theft in which the suspect took the keys out of a car inside which two children were sitting.

A 33-year-old Marcs Court resident, whose name was not released, told police she left her two young children in the car as she ran inside the Annapolis Seafood Market, 1300 Forest Drive.

She told police her 1998 Dodge truck was blocking other traffic in the parking lot, and when she returned, the woman’s 9-year-old child told her a man had opened up the driver’s door and taken the keys.

Surveillance video showed the suspect taking the keys and then striking the victim’s truck with his Chrysler van as he drove away, police said.
