The defense attorney in a high-profile triple-murder case says San Francisco police have continued a smear campaign against his client, Edwin Ramos.

The accusation was made by attorney Robert Amparan following a hearing Wednesday. Judge Lucy McCabe denied a defense motion to prevent prosecutors and police from publicly discussing the murder case.

Ramos, 21, a suspected gang member from El Sobrante, has pleaded not guilty to gunning down a father and two of his sons in the Excelsior district June 22. Homicide detectives Monday said Ramos allegedly shot the victims because he thought they were rival gang members.

Amparan said law enforcement has been leaking false information to the press, compromising Ramos’ right to a fair trial.
