The incident happened around 11 a.m. when several people attending a wedding were riding in the elevator.
Firefighters had to manually open the doors of the elevator to free the people. Those inside the elevator were about to take a “big step” up to the first floor, said Elise Armacost, spokeswoman for the county fire department.
An adult male was taken to Sinai Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries as a “precautionary measure,” fire officials said.
Two juvenile males in the elevator suffered minor injuries, but their parents refused medical treatment.
The elevators, installed at the courthouse when it opened in 1973, were all in the process of being renovated, said David Fidler, spokesman for Baltimore County’s Department of Public Works.
