Many theatergoers have a secret dream — to have a play written and performed just for them and 25 of their closest friends. The dream will come true for one lucky bidder at Boxcar Theatre’s upcoming silent auction, as an added bonus for anyone dropping by the troupe’s “Fairy Tales Gala” at 8 p.m. Saturday.

The company’s annual season preview/fundraiser kicks off its 2008-09 season, but it’s not just about prizes. The BT ensemble, which focuses on experimental theater, will preview scenes from the opening “Animal Kingdom” (Oct. 23 through Nov. 8); an animated short from “Where the Sidewalk Ends”; and even a song from the season closer “Rent Boy Avenue: A ‘Fairy’ Tale” (July 16 through Aug. 1, 2009).

But of course, winning your own personal drama would really cap the night off perfectly. The 49-seat Boxcar is at 505 Natoma St. (at Sixth Street), San Francisco. Tickets are $25; call (415) 776-1747 or visit www.boxcartheatre.org.
