A series of power outages on Monday caused afternoon peak hour delays for some Market Street Muni passengers and knocked out electricity in parts of the South of Market and Mission neighborhoods.

Bus and streetcar services were disrupted on the inbound 5, 6, 7, 21, 31 and F routes between 6 p.m. and 6:40 p.m. after power was lost near the corner of Market and Franklin streets. The outage caused overhead wire damage, according to Muni spokesman Judson True.

Delays from such power outages are not uncommon, True said, but the timing of the incident caused a backup of passengers on the affected routes.

Pacific Gas & Electric Co. late Monday was “still trying to figure out what happened,” according to spokeswoman Brandi Ehlers.

Around 6:15 p.m. an unrelated power outage in the Mission District left more than 60 customers without power after dusk.

Another outage in the South of Market neighborhood before noon caused more than 1,000 customers to lose electricity for up to an hour, according to PG&E spokesman Joe Molica. Power was fully restored by 6 p.m. That outage was caused by a felled wire that sparked a fire at the top of a utility pole.

PG&E said the causes of the other outages would be investigated.
