ST. PAUL (Map, News) - A Wisconsin man has been charged with tax fraud for allegedly filing false tax returns in Minnesota.

The Minnesota Revenue Department says 30-year-old David Paul Thompson of Roberts, Wis., has been charged in Ramsey County for allegedly filing false returns for seven people - including his mother - over a four-year period.

Thompson allegedly filed Minnesota state income tax returns and federal tax returns in the peoples' names without their knowledge or added false information to their returns to increase their refunds. He then allegedly had the refunds sent to his bank account and gave his clients only a portion of the money.

The Minnesota Revenue Department says the state lost more than $5,000 in revenue as a result of the alleged fraud.
