CLEARWATER, Fla. (Map, News) - A woman whose car careened off a causeway into Tampa Bay is in critical condition after bystanders pulled her from the water.
Tampa General Hospital said Thursday that 56-year-old Margaret DeMarco's condition is critical. DeMarco's car hit a guardrail and plunged into the water off the Courtney Campbell Causeway between Tampa and Clearwater Wednesday evening.
The sheriff's office said DeMarco was thrown from the car and then pulled from the water by several motorists who witnessed the accident.
DeMarco's car hydroplaned on the wet road before hitting the guardrail.
