Ready, Set, Auction: Glenmont home ready for next generation of kids

Glenmont, Md. (Map, News) - Pearlena Patters has spent nearly half her years at 5288 Corncockle Court. She raised her four children there, watching them grow from toddlers running around the yard to teenagers swimming in the pool to adults leaving the nest.

“They’re not going to get a house, they’re going to get a home,” Patters said of the next owners of the six-bedroom, 3.5-bathroom residence. “It’s made for a family. The kids can have friends over, adults can entertain. It’s really a home.”

Too much home for Patters, whose children are grown. She’s moving to Tennessee to be closer to family, so the property in the Glenmont neighborhood in Howard County will change hands on Wednesday, going to highest bidder over $320,000.

“Glenmont homes are often updated and well landscaped,” said Dan Billig, of A.J. Billig and Co. Auctioneers. “Few are ever listed for sale. The auction minimum of $320,000 was established by the seller to cover her current mortgage and expenses of the auction. Prospective buyers have a terrific opportunity to make a great buy. The home [is] well maintained. The pool needs renovation our could be filled if the new purchaser doesn’t want one.”

Built around 1978, the home features include double-hung replacement windows, recent carpeting and paint, ceiling fans, and a rear sun deck. A former garage has been transformed into an in-law suite.

The kitchen has been updated with laminate flooring, a breakfast nook with bow window, range/oven, microwave, dishwasher, and stainless steel sink with disposal. From the living room and dining room, sliding glass doors lead to a deck, which overlooks the pool. It’s a peaceful setting.

“It’s very quiet and out of the way,” Patters said of the home’s location.

Situated near Route 29 and I-95, the home is easily accessible from major transportation routes and is located near plenty of shopping.

“The property is in a well established area of Columbia,” Billig said. “The location is convenient to employment centers in Columbia, Baltimore and Washington.”

Patters will miss her home, but life must go on. May the next owners of 5288 Corncockle Court experience the same good fortune there that she did.
