Hunt Valley, Md. (Map, News) - Maryland State Police say a 2-month old baby has died from injuries suffered in a crash that also killed a man and closed the northbound lanes of Interstate 83 north of Baltimore, snarling morning commuter traffic.
The Baltimore County Fire Department said five other people were critically injured. The patients were taken to Shock Trauma and Sinai Hospital.
The accident occurred early today near Shawan Road in Hunt Valley.
State police spokesman Sgt. Arthur Betts told a local television station that the crash happened after a car struck a guardrail and became disabled on the highway. Betts says the dead man was removing the infant from the car when the car was struck by a second vehicle. The man died at the scene and the infant died at Sinai.
The northbound lanes of the highway remained closed several hours after the accident.

I am a good friend of Erika's. Im saddened by this accident. She loved her family so much, and lost two people she loved in the same day. I love you Erika and I am here for you if you need anything. This is going to be a tough thing to over come, but they are in a better place now.

Ronnel Offer (The Victim) was a good friend of mine. He was a very caring young man who will always be remembered for the good person he was. He chose to live his life the right way and take responsibility for his family. I still can't believe this is real. R.I.P. Ronnel Offer. Beloved friend, Son, Brother, and Father. I'm blessed to be able to say you were my friend. I love you man.

that part of I83 is very poorly lit once you go north of shawan. being as late as it was and as dark as it was, it souds to me like this is just a very unfortunate accident. however, just like the rest of the public, i am not privy to the info about whether there was alcohol involved or exactly where the victims car was positioned on the highway. my point is that you should not jump to conclusions regarding the guilt of the people involved. although the assumptions seem to point to the victim losing his life due to carelessness, there is just no way to prove that yet. so mourn and feel sorrow for the victims in this accident, but don't condemn a "murderer" just because someone died, its not your job to decide who is at fault here.

My heart thoughts and prayers go out to the surviving family. How VERY sad that this person that HIT this vehicle did NOT slow down, because apparently they were going a tad bit faster then they should have been. How do you NOT see a car on the side of the road? Will this person go to jail? Probably not! Will this family have to do the time for the murderer? Yes! One day maybe we will see justice for all the 40 thousand people being killed each year on our roads!
