Ronald Hinton, 17, was sentenced to life plus 25 years for raping and then murdering Ja’Niya Williams while she was in his care.
Before the sentencing, relatives of Ja’Niya expressed betrayal and anger toward Hinton, whose case brought national media attention upon Baltimore.
“[The] impact has been nothing but pain, made worse by the fact that I used to take care of Ronald ... I always made sure Ronald got home safe ... The rest is all anger,” said Ja’Niya’s father, Keenan Woodley, according to a victim’s impact statement.
Hinton said nothing.
Howard’s sentence marked the final chapter in the story of a brutal crime that tore a Baltimore family apart.
Hinton initially told police Ja’Niya had “fallen off the bed” in June 2006, but later confessed to raping and beating her in an upstairs bedroom — at one point chasing her downstairs to retrieve her, the charging documents said.
He also told police he used a belt to beat her. The victim suffered multiple injuries to the head, neck, chest and thigh.
At his trial Hinton later claimed he gave a false confession because he feared police based on what happened to his father.
In 1992 Ronald’s father Sean Hinton — a Baltimore city police cadet — was found dead floating in the water off the southern tip of Manhattan, N.Y.
Discovered after he had been missing for 10 days, he was found with his wrists tied together in front of his body.
But a Baltimore City jury didn’t buy the coerced confession theory. The jury convicted Ronald Hinton of rape and murder after four hours of deliberations.

The real sad part of the whole thing is,he didnt commit this crime.Baltimore City is one of the most corrupt if not the most corrupt in this nation. There is a rapist and killer on the loose while this kid sit behind bars.Who will they blame when it happens again? If any of you folks were in the court room during the trial you would agree, there were thugs throwing gang signs to the lead juror and he responed as if to say dont worry we`re gonna fry him.A lot of evidence was not allowed that could have told at least the gender of the real killer. The judge stepped off the stand to comfort a witness, the whole thing was unjust.I say think if it were you in this kids shoes or your child not given a true fair trial. If you were there you would really understand how I feel and many others that actually witnessed this injustice.Of coarse I feel really terrible about what happened to that baby girl and feel even worst that another life was taken, and even worst that there`s a real killer out here.

Ronald was one of my fourth grade students. I would never have imagined he was capable of such a crime. I'm heartbroken for Ja'Niya's family. I hope that they can find some element of peace. This was such a tragedy. I hope one day Ronald can come to terms with what he did and how many lives he impacted. He destroyed many lives with his crime.

Dear Readers of this article, some of the information stated is incorrect by the writer. Ja'Niya was NEVER taken to University of Maryland Shock Trama Center. Ja'Niya was being treated at Johns Hopkins Hospital. So, what I ask is that the reporters do better research then what has been done!!!!!!!!
