Harford County (Map, News) - An off-duty Baltimore police officer was arrested in Harford County Saturday on charges of assaulting three people and brandishing a gun at an ex-girlfriend’s house, police said.
William Warner, 21, allegedly went to the Abingdon home of former girlfriend Tara Flynn, 20, just after midnight Saturday to confront her and two other men on her back porch, said Sgt. David Betz, spokesman for the Harford County Sheriff’s Office.
Charging documents did not mention that Warner is a police officer, but other court records list him as an officer in the city’s Southeastern District. Baltimore police spokesman Sterling Clifford confirmed that Warner is a member of the department, and that he has been suspended pending a hearing scheduled for Tuesday.
Betz said the argument Saturday moved to the front yard, where Warner became increasingly agitated while talking to Jeremiah Moyer, 28. Warner went to his car, retrieved a handgun, and threatened Moyer with it, Betz said.
“He cocked the gun and stuck it in the victim’s face,” he said.
At some point, Warner lowered the gun and Moyer left. Warner tried to enter the house uninvited and got into a scuffle in the hallway, allegedly throwing Flynn to the ground and pushing Peter Kauders, 27, into a wall hard enough to make a hole in the drywall, Betz said. Warner apparently had to catch a ride, and left after the confrontation in the hall.
Betz said he did not know why Warner confronted Flynn, but witnesses said he appeared intoxicated at the time.
Warner was arrested later Saturday at his residence on charges of first-degree assault, three counts of second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, trespassing, third- and fourth-degree burglary, and use of a handgun in a violent crime, Betz said.
Warner was released later that day on $25,000 bond, according to court records.

Undertaker: Take a ride one night to a local "thug" hangout in Baltimore City, annouce you are a cop and try to leave without being shot at. I forgot to mention, you don't get to carry your work tool or a cell phone because they stole it and beat your ass with it. Good luck and let me know how you do.

That part of Harford county is really falling apart. What's going on up there? Why is there so much crime?

I think that the "gutless" examiner reader that is convicting the cop before he is tried should get what he wishes. But the next time he or one of his/her loved ones needs help. CALL A THUG!!!!!!!

I would probably win if I were to bet that every one of the writers who said police should be unarmed off duty have been arrested at least one time. I have been a cop for over 35 years. I don't really like carrying a gun. Probably 99% of the Officers I know have never had an incident off duty involving their weapon. I think they are pretty good odds . Lastly I bet every one of the model citizens who suggest the disarming of officers would appreciate that armed cop coming home from work if it was their butts on the line.

This article is such a joke and a disgrace. In no way does it show any true facts in which really happen it only shows one sided of the story.

Police Officers in the UK turn in their guns at the end of their shifts. It works there. It can work here.

These articles are based on the charging documents/warrent and only offer one side of the story. Many times these things involving Offices play out differently than they initially appear.

I agree, the Undertaker is a moron. Check their guns at the end of the shift? Obviously this idiot has never worked a radio car out of the Western District. If the officers in the city were not allowed to take their guns home, they would be getting killed on the way home from work. Does the Undertaker really think that it's a good idea for a police officer to work a neighborhood for a shift, maybe lock up some thugs in the hood, and then have to ride through that neighborhood to go home without a means to protect him or herself? Get a grip on reality Undertaker.

The idiot who thinks the police should have themself mentally evaluated--Why in the hell would a police working the streets arresting dangerous people turn his gun in at night then walk around without it!! That statement lets me know why criminals in this city feel they can open fire on police when challlenged on the streets. If they will shoot at uniformed police then ordinary citizens better be scared to death! I dont know about the officer in this case but the police need their guns 24-7 because criminals dont have a work schedule. Go for a ride along with a cop one night here in west balt like I did--I would have never imagined people did some of the things I saw!!

It mentioned in the article that he went to his car and retrieved his gun. If so, I am wondering if they are saying it was his departmental handgun. If so, you can't "cocked" a glock. Would go towards credibility of the witnesses.

Are you kidding me? You have no idea what police in this city go through. The citizens hate us. The mayor hates us. The media cannot wait to find a story to make us look bad. When's the last time you read a story about City Police doing something good for the commuinity? I can tell you that it is going on everyday. But, that doesn't sell ad's. You should be thankful that we are armed on and off duty. Do a little research before making "uneducated" comments...

Police Officers aren't supermen. They suffer from the same human weaknesses as everyone else, some even more so. If we must allow police officers to carry guns while on the job, there is no reason why we should allow them to carry guns off duty. They should have to check in their firearm at the end of the night. It is a work tool, not a personal item. If an officer insists on keeping a gun at the home he has that right. But he should be subjected to the same gun laws as everyone else while off duty.
