SAN FRANCISCO (Map, News) - Feel like they’re bleeding you dry at the gas pump? Here’s a chance to get even, courtesy of the American Red Cross and the Doubletree Hotel in Burlingame, which have teamed up for a blood drive with a fuel-efficient twist: Everyone donating blood between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. July 31 at the Doubletree site (835 Airport Blvd.) will be registered in a weekly drawing for one $100 gas gift card, and one final grand prize at the promotion’s end in September of a $1,000 card. All donors also receive a complimentary official Red Cross baseball cap.
Doubletree manager Jim Ensign — who has donated several gallons over the years himself — has offered his services, as well as special hotel-sponsored drawings with prizes including sports memorabilia and local restaurant gift certificates. For more information, contact www.beadonor.com (Code: Doubletree); (800) GIVE-LIFE; (800) 448-3548 or Jim Ensign at (650) 373-2200.

Syd is also the founder of Opel Productions, whose intention is to use the dance community as a positive vehicle of change in the community and the world. Opel parties have been on the cutting edge of the underground dance music scene in San Francisco. Additionally Syd is the founder of the Opulent Temple, a large scale sound and art environment at the annual festival Burning Man, in Black Rock City Nevada. Syd will get you dancing!

I've taken class with Mick and he's a terrific teacher. The fact that he uses his teaching and improv talents with the elderly (who are often neglected by entertainers and society at large) is a beautiful thing. What a Mensch!

no matter how healthy a slice of pizza can be made, it's still riddled with pepper, salt, and other hot stuff. without these bad ingredients, a slice of pizza wouldn't be a slice or unhealthy.

Ernestine Weiss has been a tireless worker for many good causes. Her leadership catalyzed the development of Ferry Park. It should be renamed Ernestine Weiss Park, however, Ernestine would reject that idea. She wants it to remain Ferry Park.

Watch some of the parents in their big cars and see how badly they drive to let their kiddies off at school. Two way streets don't exist for them. They just blithely drive on the wrong side of the street. What about sending these kids on public transportation? Most of the day they seem to be goofing off anyway. Sorry to spoil your day.
