The body of 38-year-old James Thomas Merrow of Hanover, Pa., was recovered Friday from the bottom of Pine Valley Park Pond in Manchester.

Merrow was fishing with his 27-year-old brother, 7-year-old son, and 39-year-old friend when he disappeared while swimming.

Police said Merrow had been drinking with friend, and when he decided to go swimming his friends moved to another location on the pond.

After Merrow wasn’t seen for about 40 minutes, his brother called Carroll County police, said department spokesman Phil Kasten.

Kasten said investigators suspect Merrow’s death was accidental, adding that no signs of trauma were found on his body.

The body was taken to the state medical examiner’s office for autopsy.
