Terry Childs, 43, is being held in lieu of $5 million bail, charged with four counts of computer tampering. If convicted, Childs could face up to seven years in state prison.
The San Francisco’s Public Defender’s Office will not represent Childs due to a conflict of interest. The court will appoint a private attorney, said Teresa Caffese of the Public Defender’s Office.
City officials said Childs holds the password to a series of computer networks, yet won’t give up any information.
The City hired experts from Cisco Systems to help unlock some of the password codes.
