Because it is such a popular route to and through the District, any work on the 14th Street Bridge, at any time, can be a real headache. Drivers will have to go through some of that pain this week as the D.C. Department of Transportation conducts emergency repairs and maintenance on the bridge.

Here's what to look out for:

Temporary lane closures Monday through Thursday between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. DDOT says all lanes will reopen by the morning rush.

DDOT has another bridge project it is working on this week, this one at the H Street Bridge, which carries traffic over the Amtrak rail lines in Northeast, D.C.

The bridge is getting a facelift and some necessary repairs. Crews will work both daytime and nighttime hours Monday through Thursday. The daytime work periods are between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. The evening work periods are between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m. Drivers should expect temporary lanes closures. All lanes will be open during the morning and afternoon rush hours.

Over at the Wilson Bridge, be aware there will be overnight lane closures this week. On the Inner Loop, between the bridge and Telegraph Road, the two left lanes will be closed Monday and Tuesday from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. for bridge work. Similar work is taking place Wednesday and Thursday this week, but on the two right lanes of the Inner Loop between the bridge and Telegraph Road.

On the Outer Loop in Maryland, between the Wilson Bridge and MD 210, the two left lanes will be closed for milling, paving and overhead bridge work Monday through Thursday between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.

Also, be aware similar work is taking place on the Inner Loop between the bridge and MD 210. That work will take place Wednesday and Thursday between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. and shut down the two left lanes.
