Bring a strong stomach to the “The Ruins;” a few scenes in this gruesome horror flick give “Hostel” and “Saw” a run for their money. The film, about a group of Americans who must flee to an ancient temple in Mexico, doesn’t break new territory — we’ve seen stupid people doing stupid things and going where they shouldn’t plenty of times. Yet, it nonetheless offers a great level of suspense. Plus, it has a unique monster killer. Put the kids to bed with earmuffs on before you watch — and that means horror fans only. This DVD features the unrated version of the movie, commentary with the director, an interesting look at how the set was made, four deleted scenes and an alternate ending. Price: $29.98 to $39.99. SUPERHERO MOVIE

These spoof films simply aren’t funny anymore. Were they ever? Beginning with “Scary Movie” and running from “Date Movie” to “Epic Movie” to “Meet the Spartans” to the current “Superhero Movie,” Hollywood has shoved just about every toilet humor gag known to mankind down our throats. “Airplane” is rolling over in its grave. This one spoofs “Spider-Man,” “X-Men” and “Fantastic Four.” Yawn. The DVD has audio commentary and deleted scenes. Price: $29.95. Rent or buy: Rent, if that.

THE X-FILES: REVELATIONS

To prepare for “The X-Files: I Want to Believe” movie coming out this summer, creator Chris Carter has hand-picked eight of the television episodes for yet another DVD release. No doubt he’ll make a little more cash on work that has already been published at least twice before. The set has the “one-episode” shows that don’t necessarily deal with “X-Files” mythology, including “The Host,” “Pilot,” “Beyond the Sea” and “Milagro.” If you already have the full seasons or even the repurposed “X-Files Collections,” there is no need to get this. Price: $22.98. Rent or buy: A good buy for those who don’t already own it.

JAKE AND THE FATMAN — SEASON ONE, VOLUME ONE; CANNON — SEASON ONE, VOLUME ONE

Sadly, Paramount Home Entertainment is splitting television season releases into two volumes. Not only is it environmentally incorrect, there’s no reason for doing it other than to make more money. Unhappy fans end up paying twice as much for their favorite show. This week, “Jake and The Fatman” and “Cannon” make their DVD debuts. Price: $36.98 each. Rent or buy: Buy, fans only.

FASTLANE: THE COMPLETE SERIES

This short-lived action series lasted one season on Fox before getting yanked. Mixing cheeseball elements with “The Fast and the Furious,” it starred Peter Facinelli and Bill Bellamy as two undercover detectives who try to take down Los Angeles crime rings. The DVD has a few featurettes, scenes that didn’t air, outtakes and a new digital cut of the episodes. Price: $59.98 Rent or buy: Rent.

BATMAN BEGINS (BLU-RAY)

Before “The Dark Knight” gets its theatrical release, check out the first “Batman” with Christian Bale, the one that restarted the franchise and gave it a modern feel. The film looks awesome in high-definition. This set also has an exclusive preview of “The Dark Knight,” new postcards and a discount offer for admission to “The Dark Knight.” Price: $28.98.
