Calvin Boswell was convicted in April of several charges, including attempted murder, and was supposed to be held in jail until his June sentencing. He’s back in custody now, but jail officials released Boswell on April 22.
State officials are blaming the error on an antiquated records system in Baltimore.
The Sun newspaper uncovered the mistaken release when Boswell was supposed to show up for sentencing months later.
“We’re investing in a case-management system now that in the future will allow our systems to be able to talk to other systems, which could help prevent errors like this one,” corrections spokesman Rick Binetti told The Sun.
