Doctor in the house?

A 53-year-old Springfield man has been formally charged with pretending to be a psychiatrist and writing hundreds of potent prescriptions. Authorities alleged in an indictment Friday that Mansour Salahmand conned several health clinics into hiring him as a staff psychiatrist. He allegedly forged at least four legitimate doctors’ names on more than 150 different prescriptions. He faces at least two years in prison if convicted. – Bill Myers

Guess who’s coming to dinner?

A man was hospitalized Saturday after slamming his sport utility vehicle into a two-story duplex apartment building. Four people who were at home were taken to the hospital for evaluation. Fire department spokesman Alan Etter told The Associated Press the accident occurred on Nicholson Street Southeast. It remained under investigation Sunday. – Bill Myers

Police search for missing man

District police are asking for the public’s help in locating a man missing since early Sunday morning. Eric Smith, a 42-year-old, light-skinned black male, is 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighs approximately 200 pounds. Smith reportedly suffers from several medical conditions for which he takes medications; he may be experiencing memory problems.
