WASHINGTON (Map, News) - Welcome back to the 11th week of our On-the-Go series! We’re almost at the end of this series (one yoga pose to go), and we’ve come a long way in exploring living life with tranquility while being constantly on the go. Life is full, we’re overly busy, yet we’re continually searching for some happiness along the way. To assist with finding this joy, we began this series by exploring setting intentions to expressing gratitude, and now it’s all about letting go. Being able to surrender attachment to the way things should be is one of the most powerful lessons out there for assisting us on our journey to joy.
The need to control or keep things as we think they should be is one of the greatest causes of suffering and an important teaching in Buddhism. To generate awareness, observe your desire to wish things different from they are. No judgment, just observation. Examine what is at the root of your desire to change the person or situation. Next, try to surrender your attachment to changing the person or situation and notice what arises.
So much of life is beyond our control — children, bosses, partners, employees, pets, life cycles — it’s important to surrender the attachment to things being a particular way, as it will often lead to disappointment. Savor each moment, know that the only thing you have control over is how you react to situations, and practice letting go of trying to control others or external situations. Your well-being will thank you for it!
