Police: Ocean City sees rash of air bag thefts

Ocean City police said they received seven reports Tuesday of air bags being stolen from cars.

Police say that in each case, the air bag was stolen from a General Motors vehicle parked in a motel or condominium parking lot. A rear window was broken in each case and only the air bag was stolen while other valuables in the cars were not taken, police said.

Air bags cost between $500 and $1,200 and are a popular target for thieves. According to the National Insurance Crime Bureau, more than 50,000 air bags are stolen annually. - AP

Gang killing nets Baltimore teen life sentence

A federal judge Tuesday sentenced a Baltimore City teen to life in prison for killing his ex-girlfriend over her gang affiliation, prosecutors said.

 Randy Golden, 19, of the 3600 block of St. Victor Street, also received an eight-year prison term for a handgun violation. Prosecutors said Golden shot his ex-girlfriend, Melissa Stefanski, in the back of the head in broad daylight in the middle of the street Jan. 9, 2007. Stefanski had recently begun selling drugs for the Crips, a rival gang of the Bloods, of which Golden is a member.

Contractor gets probation for UMBC scheme

A Cockeysville concrete contractor  will pay $5,000 and serve one year of  probation for his role in a theft and bribery scheme and the University of Maryland Baltimore County, prosecutors said.

Patrick Sisk, 51, will also be banned from working on any state projects, according to Maryland Attorney General Doug Gansler.

Sisk is the first of several defendants to be sentenced for their role in corruption at UMBC. He admitted he participated in a four-year scheme with a former university construction manager, Gansler’s office said.

Sisk allowed the manager to create fraudulent invoices on behalf of Sisk Contracting to the general contractor, prosecutors said. – Jaime Malarkey
