WASHINGTON (Map, News) - The temperature is turning up in Richmond, as Virginia lawmakers try to hammer out a deal for transportation funding in the state. But even though hundreds of planned transit projects have been put on hold or cut across the state, there are still some that are moving forward.

Here’s one of them drivers should pay attention to:

HOT LANES

Preparation for the high occupancy toll lane project has already started on the Capital Beltway; work starts this week on the HOT lane project on Interstate 95/395.

Tuesday through Thursday, between 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., the Virginia Department of Transportation will shut down the shoulder on I-95 South from exit 148, Russell Road, to exit 143, Garrisonville Road (Route 610). Soil testing is taking place.

That same work will happen at the same time Tuesday through Friday on I-95 south from just before exit 152, Dumfries Road (Route 234), to exit 150, Joplin Road (Route 619).

On I-95 North, between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., the shoulder will be closed for soil sampling between exit 150, Joplin Road (Route 619), to just after exit 152, Dumfries Road (Route 234).

Also be aware there will be rolling single-lane closures in the high-occupancy vehicle lanes from exit 152, Dumfries Road (Route 234), to the Pentagon. Crews will be testing the road surface between 10:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. Wednesday through Friday.

Metro wants riders to know it is changing the hours of its customer information hotline. If you have a question about trip schedules, fare information, general information and customer assistance, you can call 202-637-7000 from 6 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 7 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

And what about exit 160 southbound on I-95?? A huge bottleneck battling the afternoon sun, a Route 1 so0uthbound exit ramp and an exit 160 off ramp from Rt. 123 to southbound I-95. It all happens too quickly. I say, build a second level!!!!!! And, while you are at it, close the truck scales during rush hour. These big guys really mess it up as they merge onto I-95 again. Not their fault. Blame VDOT for such a mess!

How can I take a columnist seriously who can't tell the difference between "brake" and "break"? Can I have Mr. Eldridge back, please?

Hmmmm looks like it's going to be time to just stay home. This is a crock of you know what, maybe we as drivers all need to go to DC just like the truckers. This is just the beggining hold onto your wallet. Lucky for me i just bought a hybrid car yes a prius i got 62mi to the gallon last week. So my advice the sooner we get off this oil crap the better off we will be so go get yourself a hybrid and do something about it. Instead of just boo hooing over prices. Happy miling to ya.
