Teen charged with arson in house fire

D.C. fire investigators arrested a 14-year-old boy on Friday and charged him with setting a fire that caused $500,000 in damage to four homes in Northeast and resulted in minor injuries to an 83-year-old woman. He was charged with arson and other crimes.

The house fire was reported just before 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Firefighters found heavy fire on both levels of the home with significant extension to three other rowhouses. They discovered a woman who was confined to a wheelchair in the home where the fire started. She was rescued by firefighters and treated for minor smoke inhalation. Two cats were also rescued from one of the houses. Investigators, using a dog trained to detect ignitable liquids, determined the fire had been deliberately set. - Julie Shaw

Police investigate Georgetown robbery, attempted assault

The U.S. Park Police are investigating a robbery and attempted sexual assault that occurred in Georgetown on June 14, and have released a sketch of the suspect. A woman was robbed and attacked at approximately 1:30 a.m. in the area of Lock 2 of the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal and 29th Street Northwest. Man arrested in string of burglaries

Fairfax County police arrested a 20-year-old Hybla Valley man in connection with a series of home burglaries near Braddock Avenue. Evidence obtained during a search of Cornelius Sniper's residence linked him to a June 11 break-in and three others in the area, according to a police news release. He was charged Wednesday with multiple counts of burglary and grand larceny.

Two arrested after police chase, crash

Charles County sheriff's deputies pursued a vehicle that struck a police car and crashed a fence at Andrews Air Force base before two people were captured on the base. The incident began about 2:15 a.m. Friday when officers saw a car hit another in a parking lot and drive away. Police tried to get the vehicle to stop but the driver fled onto Route 301 in Prince George's County. During the pursuit, the fleeing car struck a police cruiser. The pursuit continued, police say, until the vehicle crashed through a fence at Andrews Air Force Base, when two people left the car. The suspects were found about 7 a.m. Twenty-year-old Dominique Turman and 21-year-old Reginald Paul Sweet, both of Washington, D.C. face federal charges of trespassing; traffic charges in Charles County are pending, sheriff's deputies say. - AP
