Germantown jogger discovers unidentified body on trail

Germantown (Map, News) - A Germantown jogger discovered the body of black man in his 20s along a wooded trail, Montgomery County police said.

As of Friday evening, police had not released the name of the victim, who died of an apparent gunshot, as they continued to search for his family.

The body was found nestled in the grass at the juncture of the popular Seneca Trail and a trail that starts at the intersection of Midcounty Highway and Grassy Knoll Terrace. Police were still unsure of why he was there or why the man was killed.

A sign feet from where the body was found says it is two-tenths of a mile back to the intersection which leads into the upper-class neighborhood, Middlebrook Manor.

Midcounty Highway dead ends at the trail head and Middlebrook Manor residents who live only feet from the park said it’s a popular spot for dog walking, jogging and less pleasant activities: garbage dumping, and alcohol and drug consuming among them.

“There’s no lighting down there and people driving don’t always realize it’s a dead end… sometimes they drive right off the road and into the field,” said Cindy Brown who lives with her husband, Craig Brown, and two teenage sons less than a block away.

The incident has raised her concerns about the park’s safety, she said, but she already doesn’t walk her dog there at night and it’s not likely to change the family’s habits much.

However, her 16-year-old son did ask for a ride home from the far side of the neighborhood Friday afternoon, a rarity, Craig Brown said.

Eric Gonzalez, who also lives nearby, said he saw a light green Nissan Ultima with Virginia plates parked near the trailhead when he came home from work around 5 p.m. Thursday. And his daughter, Vanessa Benitez, said she watched as police photographed and then towed that car Friday morning.

Gonzalez said he’d like to know more about what happened before allowing himself to worry too much.

“It’s not good, but I’m not going to sell the house and leave, either,” he said. “I’d like to know more. Was he killed and dumped there? That’s a little different than going back there and getting his head blown off.”

Mr. Licht tries to imply that there are are no corrolaries between hip hop/rap and violence. His best evidence is a comparison to Ballroom dancing! Typically apologistic with nary an intelligent or useful thing to add. Hey at least I am not making excuses for scum, yet I must admit that neither am I adding anything usefule, as there is nothing useful to say for Team Hip Hop in the first place. To paraphrase and address Mr. Licht, "Leave attempts at intelligent discussion to those capable of it and stick to burger flipping."

There's an easy way to deal with this. Declare street gangs as terrorist organizations if 2 or more members have been convicted of a homicide. Make a law declearing membership in a known terrorist organization to be a felony with a minimum 10 years in prison. Lock them up in solitary confinement and ban visits by family menbers on the grounds of security. Expand the "implied consent" law to allow anyone in the company of a known terrorist/gang member to be stopped and searched at will. Allow all vehicles, cash, and other assets of convicted terrorist/gang members to be seized and auctioned off to provide restitution for victims and their families. Initiate a massive effort to ensure that gang members are imprisoned, isolated, deprived of cash/assets, and ostracized, to make joining a gang as unattractive as possible to young people. Gangs need young blood to perpetuate their criminal activities - cutting off the source will ensure that they are neutralized in a few year's time...

>>Re: Police investigating Foggy Bottom triple-shooting<< Spare us the inept and inaccurate description of music in your police reports, as if music could hurt people. If you mean to say that young people were at this party and violence could be more of a possibility, say so. This kind of lazy editorial shorthand only proves ignorance of the community you purport to cover. There are places in Northern VA featuring ballroom dancing by young people where gang violence can be a problem -- Vietnamese gang violence. Shall we blame ballroom dancing? Leave music criticism to others and report the news.

John Lott's work has not been "discredited" by any academic group, unlike Michael Bellisiles "work". Those who attack Lott's work disagree with his methods, but they are just as valid as any method used by "researchers" with an anti-gun agenda. Both the CDC and the National Academy of Sciences were unable to prove ANY link between gun ownership, gun control laws and crime levels. This was after studying 20 years worth of "data" mostly compiled by researchers with an anti-gun rights agenda. While there are no reliable stats to show that more guns = less crime, there are even fewer reliable stats that show less guns = less crime. Since gun ownership does not affect crime levels, any law abiding citizen who wishes one, should be able to own and carry a firearm of choice, while felons will still be barred (of course that doesn't work since some politicians coddle the criminal demographic in pandering for votes (Maryland and Baltimore in particular))

To Watas, You said "Baltimore needs more legal guns, not less. These kinds of shootings don't happen in places where law-abiding citizens are allowed to be armed (Florida, Texas, or just about any flyover state)." Yes they do. "Criminals aren't stupid - they prefer places like Baltimore, where they know they are the only people with guns." Do some research about violence in urban areas and violence in rural areas and you arguement makes you sound stupid. No guns is not the answer, more guns in not the answer. For Chrissakes, enforce the laws on the books, that is usually the problem. In the end it all about the $, so whoever wants a gun, get one...laws schmalls.
