George Washington is having some work done. The National Park Service will start roadwork today outside of the Mount Vernon Estate, delays are expected.

The Park Service, working with the Federal Highway Administration, will rehab the median along with the loading and unloading areas of Mount Vernon Circle.

The circle is an important connection for drivers on the George Washington Parkway — only one lane around the circle will remain open during the construction. The road work is expected to last until at least mid-August.

The Northbound and Southbound lanes of the adjacent George Washington Parkway will stay open. Drivers are being asked to pay attention to signs announcing lane closures, delays and detours.

When the work is finished, drivers will have a different route around the circle, which should improve traffic flow.

WILSON BRIDGE:

If you normally travel across the Wilson Bridge at night, be ready for some lane closures and delays this week.

Tonight, tomorrow and Wednesday night, from 9:00 p.m. until 5:00 a.m. the next morning three lanes on the Outer Loop (I-495 North) will be reduced down to one lane. That work will happen west of Telegraph Road to just West of Route 1.

Milling and paving is taking place on the lanes approaching and leaving the Wilson Bridge.

 BELTWAY CLOSURES:

Look out for single lane closures on both I-495 North and South all this week in the Route 29, Braddock Road, Chain Bridge Road, Route 7, I-66 and Little River Turnpike areas, as preliminary work on the HOT Lanes project on the Beltway continues. The majority of the road work will take place between 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
