A worthwhile feast to end childhood hunger

BALTIMORE (Map, News) - The American Visionary Arts Museum in Baltimore was the place, and great food was the flavor of the evening at the recent Share Our Strength’s Taste of the Nation fundraiser. This was the 13th annual gourmet extravaganza, and hundreds of guests sampled fine food and specialty cocktails and took part in a fab silent auction.

Seen wining and dining were Marc Kantrowitz, who is managing director of the Pam Shriver Tennis classic, Baltimore Style Magazine editor  Brian Lawrence, Kali’s Court and Mezze owner Karen Patten, Cork’s top chef Jerry Pellegrino, Capital Grille’s Sous Chef Daniel Henry and my new favorite person, chef Nancy Longo of the Pierpoint Restaurant, who served it up with some kick-butt seaweed salad. Also seen having a great time were Howard Greenblatt and Larry Cizek of the National Pork Board.

It was all for a great cause, but the irony wasn’t lost on guest Jim Burger (great name to have at a food fundraiser): “Isn’t it funny how all of us here are stuffing our faces to raise money to end hunger?”

Share Our Strength (No Kid Hungry) is a national organization that is dedicated to ending childhood hunger in the United States.

A LEGAL BEAGLES’ BREAKFAST

The 11th  annual Equal Justice Council Awards and Recognition breakfast drew almost 200 guests to its recent event held at Camden Yards. Even though veteran ABC news correspondent Sam Donaldson did not report for duty due to a scheduling goof, he did send a video introduction for New York civil court Judge Fern Fisher, who was the event’s guest speaker. Judge Pam White kept things in order, as this year’s honorees included Benjamin Rosenberg, Raymond Truitt, Ann Oxenham and Deborah Gardner.

PSST! YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST

Baltimore-based Brown Advisory Investment’s Greg Barnhill will be missed at this year’s Zoomerang gala tomorrow night. Barnhill will be joining a Baltimore contingent heading to Rwanda as part of the Mountain Gorilla Veterinary Project. Mountain gorillas are on the brink of extinction with only an estimated 700 left, according to MGVP’s Web site. Safe travels, Greg.

Actress Renee Zellweger was seen getting her carb-on at Einstein Bagels on Goucher Boulevard in Towson recently. Zellweger is in the Land of Pleasant Living shooting a film called “My One and Only.” So keep your eyes peeled — Renee and co-star Chris Noth, aka. Mr. Big from “Sex and the City” fame, will be around town, hon.
