Business owner shoots robber in Baltimore

A Charles Village dry cleaner owner shot a repeat attempted robber Wednesday, Baltimore City police said.

At 1:40 p.m., a robber entered the St. Paul Cleaners, 3120 St. Paul St., with a knife, said police spokesman Agent Donny Moses.

“This is the second time he tried to rob this cleaner,” he said.

The owner shot the would-be robber in the hip, arm and hand.

The suspect was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center and will be charged upon his release with weapons and robbery offenses.

Police also are checking if the shop owner had a proper gun permit.

Columbia woman charged with attempted murder

A Columbia woman was charged with first-degree attempted murder after allegedly threatening a Howard police officer at her senior citizen apartment complex on Snowden River Parkway.  The officer shot Pearl Harris, 62, in the hip April 30, when she refused to drop a knife, police said. She was indicted Wednesday by a Howard grand jury and also charged with first-degree assault and reckless endangerment.  She is being held without bond at the Howard County Detention Center.  — Carolyn Peirce

Anne Arundel worker falls after being shocked

A 45-year-old man was injured Wednesday when he fell from a ladder after being shocked, Anne Arundel fire authorities said. The worker, whose name was not released, suffered an electrical shock about 9:30 a.m. and fell about 9 feet while renovating a building at Annapolis Plaza on Jennifer Road. The man was treated at the Johns Hopkins Bay View burn unit, fire authorities said. —Carolyn Peirce

Police find firearms, drugs at Pasadena house

Anne Arundel police said they found more than $15,000 in cocaine and marijuana and 27 firearms during a search of a Pasadena house.

Melvin Surguy, 61 and Teresa Surguy, 44, both of Chelsea Beach, were charged with drug possession with intent to distribute. Ronald Surguy also was charged with possessing a firearm. — Carolyn Peirce
