Andrew Baughman is artistic director of Landless Theatre Company, whose mission is to do works that reach new audiences.

How did the company get started, and how did you find your current niche?

Our mission has changed over the years. I started as an actor working in musicals, doing a lot with dinner theaters in the area. Some friends of mine and I got sick of doing “The Sound of Music” all the time and wanted to do slightly edgier work.

It seems you’ve focused a lot on cult theater in the process.

That’s definitely true. By the nature of trying to reach out to a different audience base, that’s what has happened. Our first really successful show was “The Rocky Horror Show,” and it kind of went from there. We have a fringe piece coming up that is a collaboration with the composer of “Rocky Horror” — it’s called “Diamond Dead: A Zombie Rock Musical.”

What’s been the most successful?

This season we’ve started to bring in some of the mainstream, with “Gutenberg! The Musical” and “A Very Merry Unauthorized Children’s Scientology Pageant.”

Your next show is “Debbie Does Dallas: The Musical.” What was behind that choice?

“Debbie” was an off-Broadway hit. We’ve actually been trying to get the rights for a long time. I’ve never seen the movie, but this piece is funny because it’s a satire on the whole pornography industry — they’ve taken the script of the movie, treated it like dramatic material and replaced all the illicit scenes with musical numbers.

You ran a “So Bad It’s Good” play writing contest — what were the results?

We had around 70 applicants, and this month, we’ll premiere “Deep Inside Oz,” which is a strange blend of “Star Wars” and “The Wizard of Oz” — it’s a radio play that’s got a burlesque spin, and written by Randy Gross of Philadelphia.
