WASHINGTON (Map, News) - The Mystics start a two-game road trip tonight, traveling to San Antonio before heading to Connecticut on Sunday.

Ms. Smith goes to Washington » Crystal Smith is expected to be in uniform for the Mystics for the first time tonight, relieving point guard responsibilities from Alana Beard (20.6 points per game, 4.2 assists, 3.6 turnovers) and Amber Jacobs (1.7 ppg, 1.8 apg, 1.3 tpg). Hopefully, she can make some free throws — the Mystics are shooting a league-low 60.7 percent from the line.

Hammon headed to Beijing, but Beard? » San Antonio guard Becky Hammon is a four-time WNBA All-Star and finished second in last year’s MVP voting. Perennially snubbed by USA Basketball, she will represent Russia in this year’s Olympics after becoming a naturalized Russian citizen during the WNBA offseason. Beard upped her chances for the U.S. team with a career-high 33 points vs. Phoenix on Tuesday.

While this move (signing Currie) will fill the seats (for a little while), this was a bad move for the team. Chastity Melvin was healthy, and playing some of the best 'ball on the team. She was a legitimate Center, in a league with very few legitamate Centers. Nakia Sanford plays hard, which is great, but she has a propencity to get into foul trouble quite early and often; we have no one behind Nakia Sanford, (that kid they picked up, Goring, is no where near ready). We got crushed by the Monarchs 'inside'. Currie would not have helped. We're screwed.
