Recently there was a public hearing before the San Francisco Planning Commission in which several members of the community came to voice their concerns. The eight commissioners validated our community concerns and voted unanimously for an indefinite continuance on the project until further studies can be done to address and answer all of our concerns.
This was community activism at its finest. A community can band together for a good cause to create a lasting legacy for the neighborhood.
Front page news
In a time when our fallen, injured and serving veterans is at an all time high, The Examiner honors this time-honored tradition by a tiny article buried on page 8 (“Day to remember,” May 27)? Where are your priorities? Front page news deserves front page coverage. No matter what your political beliefs are, Memorial Day is a time to put them aside and honor those who did and are serving this great country. Shame on you.

Making us proud
Hats off to NASA and the scientists who again have made me proud to be an American.
Now let’s see if you, the best of the best, can get this country off fossil fuel, and onto clean, renewable energy while there is still time, and let America lead the way into the 21st century. It would be ironic if one day a probe was sent to this planet, and sent back a signal of … no intelligent life detected.
A breach of trust
There has been too little coverage of the planned aerial spraying over the Bay Area for the light brown apple moth. It’s a classic breach of public trust by the government, with bad health effects reported in Santa Cruz and Monterey counties, where spraying already took place. The spray will happen unless enough public pressure can be mounted, and news stories are a vital part of raising public awareness.

Speier’s endorsement
[Tuesday] morning I woke up to the news that U.S. Rep. Jackie Speier had formally endorsed Supervisor Jerry Hill for the Democratic nomination for 19th Assembly District.
I was very pleased to hear this, but found it most amusing after Gina Papan’s attempt to associate her campaign with the Congresswoman. Jackie Speier carries a lot of political clout, and her recognition of Supervisor Hill, who is also prominent throughout San Mateo County, only further proves that he is the most qualified and experienced candidate in this race.

"in a businesslike manner" is a bit redundant here...
