The Entertainment Commission’s pick for the job, which pays $45,000 a year under an ordinance passed in February, has yet to accept the position, according to the commission’s Executive Director Bob Davis. An announcement is expected next week, however, and community organizers said it’s about time.
Halloween has drawn thousands of revelers to the Castro for decades, but recent parties, which have drawn more than 250,000 people, have resulted in bloodshed. Officials clamped down on a “non-event” last year.
Several ideas are being considered to avoid a similar crackdown this year, including a Halloween parade or a handful of concurrent neighborhood parties throughout San Francisco, Supervisor Bevan Dufty told The Examiner on Wednesday. Dufty also said The City has reached at least one sponsorship agreement to help fund a large tent or concert venue.
In February, the Board of Supervisors passed an ordinance sponsored by Dufty creating a position responsible for the promotion and safety of city events as well as planning future events. The events manager may also be called on to work on other soirees, such as ING Bay to Breakers.

The crowds won't confine themselves there, but end up in SOMA too. But it makes perfect sense to me. High probability of violence at a celebration, just have it in District 6, heck Daly won't mind since "Affordable Housing" is his number one priority since it will solve all our problems including the violence and all the other "stuff" that happens at these "parties". Heck we are suppose to have fun in life, yes makes perfect sense District 6. Hey while we are at it lets add a few more SROs, drug rehabs, outreach, pot clubs, and yes lets not forget the new out of city "Johns" that will come after the Board of Supervisors approves prostitution ...no problem District 6 is just your spot.

The city has a defiect budget and they are hiring someone to throw partys. No wonder no unions want to give back to the city.

This is a total waste of time by yet another termed out elected official. Duffty should take the $40,000. or cash and give it to house people with AIDS/HIV. Or what I would like to see is Duffty and the Mayor give food out at Project Open Hand for a day. My God there is so much talent in this City you can’t get someone to volunteer for this? What a total waste of Taxpayer money. Keep Halloween in the Castro. Stop termed out elected officials from destroying the City.

Who in their right mind is going to accept this likely highly contentious events coordinator position for $45,000.00? And if they do, how long will they likely stay before burnout settles in? I believe this salary is comical when cast against the other salaries at city hall.

Since when is the City thinking like a non-profit? $45,000 for a full-time position with this magnitude of probable problems attached. The salary should be set at the average of all those public information officers in the various City departments including the Mayor's officer: Nate Ballard! I agreed with Bevan Dufty about the absolute need for someone to be Control Central, but give us a break, very few employees over 30 can thrive in San Francisco at that salary level.

Holloween is not being attacked by by the PC Lefties. It is the Christian Right who find it offensive. If you want to find out who the protected classes are in this country, try saying something about Christians and their irrational beliefs based on scripture. Anyone brave enough to to state that Christian faith is delusional would be burned at the stake.

I'd like to point out the error of those who think the loss of Halloween is due to the non-religious or other bleeding hearts. From Wikipedia ---> Some consider Halloween to be completely incompatible with the Christian faith due to its origin as a Pagan "festival of the dead."

Ok this is about the most rediculous thing I've heard. Heaven forbid (oh wait, can't say that b/c it might be construed as religion) anyone be offended by anything. Halloween is a time for kids to dress up and celebrate being children, fun for families regardless of background because there is no presumption of religion. How do you not celebrate? Exactly how did they determine that less than 10% of the students celebrate the holiday? They send out surveys to 2nd graders? I live up the street and am adding this to the numerous reasons for me moving out of state, right below being taxed to death by Governor tax alot Omalley...REDICULOUS

Hmm, apple pie and apple juice at the end of the day. That's enough fiber and pectin to give more than a few of the kids the old Hershey squirts. Good idea. The bus ride home should be fun!

“I’m for anything that creates a sense of inclusion..." OK, then I will come over and slap all you PC morons upside the head. That should give you a sense of inclusion!! Less than 10% of the school population says they don't celebrate Halloween, so they cancel it. This is a perfect example of the tyranny of the minority. Who does Halloween offend? It is a secular holiday! You put on a costume, you have fun, you get some candy. What could be better than that for a kid? These PC school administrators need to get over themselves and let the kids be kids.

This is ridiculous! If you don't want to sell Halloween, then get the hell out of this country! Halloween is not a religious holiday, it's a holiday for kids. No wonder children are shooting up schools, they are taking away everything fun like Gym, Recess, Christmas, and Halloween. So far, the terrorists have won as they're slowing causing stuck up PC yuppies to overly protect their children instead of letting them be children. This country is starting to suck real bad!!
