hey cop cake... the difference between traffic that is stalled for an accident and traffic stopped for a small funeral is that one is necessary and the other is unnecessary. the cops had another route they could take. they stopped traffic on a road they knew was dangerous. an accident happened. and i guess what you're saying here is that because a person is able to call 911 and get assistance for trouble, cops can create unnecessary roadblocks that kill people? grow up. cops are at fault here.

Your kidding..right? #1 I am not a cop #2, it wasnt my funeral as you have stated, #3 I was not involved or even in that county. I have no clue how the "Cop Cake" name popped up, this is a public computer. WHAT IF the driver was on his cell phone is what I said, never said he WAS. The police, obviously whom you dont care for (get a ticket recently?)closed a roadway. If so many other cars can see the road closure, why cant the trucker who sits much higher and has a better sight line? Every one is quick to bash the police but it wasnt the police who ran over the stopped cars, it was a truck driver, whom I feel for. He must be going through hell. My prayers are with him as well as the victims husband. You are quick to degrade the police but let your tail get into a sling, who are you going to call?? THE POLICE I am not bashing you but come on, reality check. If traffic was stopped due to a stalled vehicle on the highway, the same outcome could have happened. Just a total tragedy period.

You don't have anything substantitive on the driver, you can't admit the cops made a huge mistake blocking a major highway when they didn't have to, so you have to try to find some BS reason to justify why the driver is at fault??? The "cop arrogance" you're showing is exactly the reason why the crash occured in the first place! You can do no wrong, it's everybody else's fault, you're a big man, and by the way, you're so special that your funeral procession has to block a major highway when it could have gone down Veterans Highway. And you wonder why so many citizens look at cops as being beneath them.

As a Tractor/Trailer Instructor for FedEx Express, I have first hand knowledge regarding the operation of a larger vehicle especially regarding stopping distances especially at Interstate speed. What on earth were the police thinking when they SHUTDOWN a normally busy Interstate, especially during a holiday weekend. What I do not understand is if the Police wanted to shutdown the Interstate in order to allow the funeral procession to enter they couldn't have had a DOT truck a 1/4 or 1/2 mile prior with a signboard warning of traffic ahead. If they did it never was never mentioned in the news reports. If the evidence shows it was the driver's fault due to lack of attention, speed, etc. then he will suffer the consequences. He actually already is and will for the rest of his life regardless of the outcome of the investigation.... I would wish that rather than lay blame we pray for those involved, both living and those gone. My sympathy goes out to all involved.

As the sister of the driver of the Fedex truck my brother is devastated with all that has happened. He feels nothing but sorrow, sadness, and pain for what has happened to Mrs.Sanctez and her unborn child. My brother did everything he could to avoid hitting anyone that day. It was foolish for the police to bring traffic to a complete stop on such a busy highway. Because of this not so well thought out plan, people were injured and(2) lives were taken. I think if this plan to control traffic for someones funeral had been better executed then this woman's life and her child would have been spared. My brother is deeply sadned and sorrowed by the travasty on Friday morning. On behalf of my brother and our family, words can not express the pain we are feeling right now, and I know there is nothing that my brother could possibly say that would bring your wife and child back. Mr Sanctez we send you our deepest condolences and may GOD bless. I hope that you can find forgiveness in your heart.

It's 100% the truck drivers fault. He failed to pay attention while driving a 70,000 pound missle down the interstate without regard for anyone else's safety. What a shame two innocent lives lost. If the police had the traffic totally stopped, then the driver had to stop himself. How come several other vehicles stopped after seeing the road closure? The Fed Ex driver had his head up his you know what. Could he have been distracted by a cell phone, etc. Summons his cellular records.

The Baltimore Sun stated that the police had stopped traffic on 97 for a funeral and that the tractor trailer failed to slow down. If this is true its a sad shame. Why would the police stop traffic on a very busy interstate like 97 anyway unless for a emergency.

SLOW DOWN. I'm surprised that more people aren't killed on 97.
