BALTIMORE (Map, News) - The Baltimore area ranks among the worst when it comes to road rage, says a new survey.
Drivers here ranked fourth-worst for driving habits that lead to road rage, the survey of 25 cities found.
“I’m not at all surprised by the survey results,” said Ragina Averella, AAA Mid-Atlantic spokeswoman. “The reality is that with more people driving, they are becoming less courteous on the roads. The roads are more congested and people are more distracted — and all these things lead to road rage.”
Connecticut-based AutoVantage car club released the survey based on more than 2,500 telephone surveys.
Respondents were queried on incidents that included motorists ignoring stop lights, speeding, sending text messages and talking on cell phones while driving.
“We live in a fast-paced, gridlocked, multitasking world and that unfortunately has manifested dangerously on the roads, streets and highways across America,” said Todd Smith, an AutoVantage spokesman.
Averella pointed to examples of road rage: A dispute between two drivers on Interstate 270 in Frederick that led to two people being killed.
Just a few weeks ago, another person was killed on Route 10 near Annapolis in an incident Anne Arundel County police are investigating as possible road rage.
Elena Russo, a state police spokeswoman, said the survey results surprised her.
“It’s astonishing that Baltimore ranks fourth,” she said. “The survey just goes to show that motorists have to learn to be courteous by not tailgating and using their turn signals.”

All you important people out there that feel the need for speed, need to afix a sign to your vehicle stating such so that the rest of us can get out of your way. My suggestion: VIP on board, make way. VIP stands for very impatient person.

Um...3:06, all lanes are the same speed limit! The so called "fast lane" is actually...the passing lane. As stated below, if drivers actually had to pass a real test to get a license, we would not have to worry about people like you threatening those of us who wish not to die in a fiery crash. What is so freaking important that you need to intimidate those who actually drive safely? Hopefully Darwin's theory of evolution will take effect and those that do stupid things on the highways will find themselves out of the gene pool without too much more loss of innocent life.

Baltimore is filled with dangerous, uneducated, anti-social thugs. Baltimore is led by race-mongering fools who excuse the violence of these thugs. The city has gotten what it's citizens have chosen for it -- a bleak civic landscape with random violence and antisocial behavior.

Most extreme?!?!? If this were Baghdad, people would be lobbying to have the US pull out. It's Baltimore City. The crimes occurred outside of the 2 block range of Charles STreet and outside the 3 blocks of the waterfront green-zone. What did you expect? Baltimore is a battle zone.

Here is a piece of really good advice: stay the heck OUT OF BALTIMORE CITY. The only positive effect of this "hit" was the shooters only hit the people they were shooting at. Innocent bystanders and/or other drivers could have been killed too. Baltimore, a great city to be from....far, far from. Please notice no comment from girlfriend, Sheila Dixon.

Some folks should not be driving. The state needs to tighten up on licensing requirements. You should be required to pass a written exam, as well as a full physical and metal evaluation. Doing so would eliminate half the drivers on the road.

hey 8:48, whats wrong with what i said? i dislike this crappy article because it has no real details of the accident or any evidence even remotely backing this up as road rage. do i think we should blame this on O Malley? of course not, but do i think we should sweep it under the carpet? no way. some people just think they can say "hey, dont blame me , i didnt vote for those guys" and they can clear all responsibility for what happens in the world. i guess some people would rather point fingers instead of trying to solve things.

Thanks 10:01. I simply point out that many details are missing from the article which dismisses the incident as road rage. I'd like to know if there's any indication that it was drug or gang related (after all it's Baltimore City). I strongly doubt it was the Hardy Boys gunning down Ma and Pa Kettle. Then I'm told to stifle by the aforementioned poster after being asked where I was at 6PM. What a bunch of crap. Clearly someone's on the defensive for whatever reason.

Very sad indeed. But why is a 32 year old man driving around with a 16 yr old girl and two teenagers in the back seat? There is something more to this story. The area that they were driving around in, is big for drugs and hookers, espeically North ave. I agree, I don't think it is road rage.

How the hell could they have declared this incident road rage less just a few hours after the attack? face it people, it happened in Bolton Hill near MICA, they are going to downplay this as much as possible. You are going to hear from experts about the dangers of road rage and the need for more legislation against it. Oh wait, this article is just that!

The problem is it's just like streetracing. By the time you get to the scene, in most cases, the people have already cleared out, making it difficult to pin culpability on anyone. You have no way to prosecute the actions at the "scene of the crime."

If you want to reduce road rage, you need to reduce the number of people driving. The fact is, there are millions of people out there, who have been licensed to drive, who should be operating anything more complicated than a toaster, yet they are free blast down the road at whatever speed they please. Use a turn signal? Why bother. Let another car in front of me? Get real. Take up two spaces when parking? Its my right. Ok all joking aside, we need to make the licensing requirements much stricter. People need to speak and understand english. They should be able to pass a functional literacy test, a full physical exam and undergo a phsychological work up. Do that, and road rage wont be a problem.

until the motive of this unfourtunate shooting is clearly investigated and reported, we cannot make judgement as most folks do. those thats stated a drug deal, prove it, were they actually there during the crime to actually see this and a eyewhitness to the FACT that it was a drug deal gone wrong.so until investigations are completed, why not just hold on to inproper judgements and stop trying to become another enquire or examiner or globe magazine who writes from imagination and false-hoods.
