Road being resurfaced on Route 32

Howard County (Map, News) - A $1.3 million road resurfacing project started this week on Route 32 in Howard County.

The State Highway Administration will be resurfacing about 2 1/2 miles of road between West Linden Church Road and Clarksville Pike.

The project is expected to be completed by the end of June.

Motorists can expect single-lane closures between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m. Sunday through Thursday.

Nominations sought for leaders in community service

The Community Action Council of Howard County Inc. is seeking nominations for awards for outstanding community service, which will be presented at the annual Holland Awards Dinner in October.

The Rev. John W. Holland Humanitarian Award, named after a long-serving CAC board member and former president of the local branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, will be presented to a county resident.

Two local organizations will receive the Community Service Awards.

The awards recognize service to Howard residents in need.

CAC is a nonprofit providing programs and services for low-income Howard residents.

Traffic delays likely during Columbia Triathlon

Howard police are reminding residents to plan ahead for expected delays on county roads Sunday for the 25th annual Columbia Triathlon.

The triathlon, which includes a bicycle and running course, will be held from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.

About 1,500 cyclists will be riding on Route 108 from Ten Mills Road to Harpers Farm, Homewood, Folly Quarter, Triadelphia, Triadelphia Mill, Green Bridge, Howard and Linthicum roads.

The participants will then run on Old Annapolis Road and Carillon, Cross Country, Century and Colonial drives.
