Article History BALTIMORE (Map, News) - Is there a doctor in the house? If you had attended the Harbor Hospital Gala, you would have seen plenty. Supporters and members of the hospital gathered at the Hyatt Regency in Baltimore recently for a fine dinner, great views of the harbor and to celebrate the hospital’s accomplishments over the past year.
Harbor President Joseph M. Oddis, who also served as event co-chairman with his wife Debbie, proudly shared his feelings on how special Harbor Hospital is, adding with smile: “We are a big happy family, so I know I have to keep my comments short so we can get down to partying.”
That set the tone for the fun, especially when event co-chairmen Greg and Lisa Barnhill jumped in on the impressive live auction. Among the guests were Dr. John Carbone and Dr. Leigh Ann Curl, who is the first woman to be a team orthopedist in the NFL with our Ravens. St. John Properties was well represented with Jerry and Diane Wit, Stan and Anita Meros, Rick Williamson and his wife, Jamie Sapanara, and Sharon Akers. All proceeds from this evening’s event are going to support Harbor Hospital’s purchase of a new state-of-the-art CT scanner.
JENNA WATCH
By now, everyone knows about the Jenna Bush-Henry Hager wedding this past weekend, and most readers probably know the groom has landed a job in Baltimore with Constellation Energy. But are the prez’s daughter and her Virginia-bred hubby going to fit in as a couple of South Bawlmer hons?
“South Baltimore should suit Jenna and her husband well,” said Mel Tansill, director of public affairs for Erickson Retirement Communities who grew up and played Little League baseball around the corner from the Hagers’ new house.
“Jenna’s neighborhood has many restaurants and cultural places of interest,” added Tansill, who attended Oliver H. Perry Elementary, just two blocks south of Jenna’s new digs on South Charles Street. “It is close to the Inner Harbor, Fort McHenry and both stadiums. I think she’ll fit right in.”
Socially Speaking was told that the” First Bride” already reads this column, so Mrs. Hager, the crab cakes are on me when you move to 21230.
SPOTTED
Speaking of Erickson Communities, Nils Lofgren — guitarist for Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band — visited his mother, Josephine, who lives at the Riderwood campus, for a Mother’s Day dinner.
CONGRATS!
To the Women Entrepreneurs of Baltimore for its fundraiser/awareness event last week. Robert Kacher brought his “Kacher Lady Winemaker Tour” to the Science Center, site of the event, to share more than 20 wines from the female winemakers of France and Argentina. WEB chief executive officer Joanne Saltzberg was thrilled with the turnout as was Board of Trustee member, Blair Slaughter. “A great evening all the way around especially introducing more than 100 people to WEB’s good works.” Slaughter said.
PSST! YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST
And congrats to Jack Antwerpen. It seems the 61-year-old owner of the local mega-car dealership got out of dodge recently to get hitched. The Queen Anne’s Courthouse courtyard in Queenstown, which is one of the oldest public institutions in the state, was the place, and even though the weather was nice, I’m told the wind sent more than a few yarmulkes flying. The lucky bride? Realtor Dolores Larrimore.
