SAN FRANCISCO (Map, News) - Long before talk radio and shock jocks were the good ol’ days of radio, when the airwaves offered the likes of the Amos ’n Andy, Flash Gordon and the Lone Ranger.

On Tuesday, a program presented by the San Francisco Museum and Historical Society will include retrospectives about those days as well as a live performance of historic radio programs (complete with sound effects) using original scripts.

Dave Parker, a member of the first “Lone Ranger” cast, will appear with other members of the Bay Area Broadcast Legends, including Terry Lowry, Fred LaCosse and Al Hart. The “Golden Memories of Radio” event will revisit the medium’s heyday, when programming revolved around story lines, not news or music.

The event also includes a talk by Mike Adams, chair of the Department of Television, Radio, Film and Theater at San Jose State University, and David Jackson, founding curator of the Bay Area Radio Museum and director of the Bay Area Radio Hall of Fame.

Dan Odum, an actor, singer and educator with a 40-year history in radio, also will appear, talking about the 30-minute “Proudly We Hail” series of World War II stories he produced.

The festivities are at the Jewish Community Center, 3200 California St., San Francisco. Suggested admission is $5. A reception at 7 p.m. will precede the 7:30 p.m. program. For details, call (415) 775-1111, ext. 5 or visit www.sfhistory.org.
