Traffic stop leads to backpack with 9 pounds of heroin

ANAHEIM, Calif. (Map, News) - A traffic stop in Anaheim led to the discovery of a backpack with nine pounds of tar heroin.

A Nissan Sentra driven by Baudelio Hernandez Ruiz was pulled over for a variety of traffic violations Wednesday night by a patrol officer whose drug-sniffing police dog was nearby.

Police spokesman Rick Martinez says the dog detected the odor of the heroin, which was traced to a backpack in the trunk of the car. The nine pounds of tar heroin is worth about $80,000.

Bail for the 37-year-old Long Beach man is set at $1 million.
