Article History VENTURA, Calif. (Map, News) - Little League players in Ventura have had brighter nights.
Copper thieves targeted an electrical vault at Camino Real Park, stealing copper wires and controllers that left Ventura Coastal Little League night games in the dark. The theft occurred late May 1 or early May 2.
The league was left scrambling to reschedule games and move games.
Public Works director Ron Calkins says there's about $20,000 in damage and repairs to get baseball field lights working again will take weeks.
The league canceled all night games until the lighting is restored. The resulting shortage of baseball fields has forced relocation of some games to Santa Paula.
Copper can fetch more than $3 a pound at recycling centers.
