Tolls as high as $7 being considered for Golden Gate Bridge

SAN FRANCISCO (Map, News) - Drivers could be paying as much as $7 to cross the Golden Gate Bridge if officials approve a new toll plan designed to cut down on traffic during peak hours.

Officials with the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District already plan to increase by a dollar the current toll of $5 for those who pay with cash and $4 for those who use FasTrak.

The district's board is scheduled to consider this morning a congestion-based toll that would add a dollar more between 7 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 6 p.m. on weekdays, and 3 to 7 p.m. on weekends and holidays.

A second proposal that would give FasTrak uses an additional 50-cent discount during peak travel times will also be considered.
