WASHINGTON (Map, News) - Mayor Richard Daley is looking to the federal government for more money to help boost Chicago's ongoing battle against gangs and drugs.

Daley was in Washington on Thursday to meet with the Illinois congressional delegation.

Daley told reporters he has talked with Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson and FBI Director Robert S. Mueller III to seek their support and is looking for financial aid from the Justice Department.

Senator Richard Durbin says lawmakers have requested $2.5 million for Chicago from the Justice Department and plan to meet with officials there next week.

Daley says Chicago is investing in ways to keep young people away from gangs, touting summer jobs and educational opportunities as effective alternatives.
