Political Play: McCain visits NYC fire station

NEW YORK (Map, News) - John McCain offered to hand out a few New York slices as he visited a fire station on a light day of campaigning Thursday.

"Can I distribute?" the expected Republican presidential nominee asked the firefighter holding a stack of pizza boxes at the midtown Manhattan station.

McCain also paused in front of a memorial to firefighters who died in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

He sat down for a brief chat in the station's break room, asking a rapid-fire succession of questions: "What do you need, some equipment? What have you got? So what else do you need? Newer equipment? How's recruitment going? You got enough people? How's retention?"

Before leaving, McCain posed in front of two fire trucks with several firefighters holding a T-shirt from the station.

McCain was on a fundraising swing and media blitz in New York. The Arizona senator netted $7 million at an event Wednesday night and had another fundraiser scheduled Thursday afternoon in New Jersey.

McCain also taped interviews on Comedy Central's "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart," Fox News' "The O'Reilly Factor" and "Live with Regis and Kelly." His wife, Cindy, was interviewed by NBC's "Today" show.

I just read that Chelsea Clinton doesn't speak when she's on stage with her mother or to the press. Why bring her out? To give the impression that she's normal? Why does she look like Webb Hubble and not Bill Clinton.

Why would Hillary stick around, she knows everything. There is not one thing the Pastor could say that Hillary hasn't already said or thought. Plus she probably feels pretty uncomfortable in God's house. Lighting might strike.

What a shallow fake. Did she walk out with a prop Bible? Is it something new that she supports children's rights? Who doesn't? What does that have to do with being President of the United States? Sadly she will win these first few states but I don't think they can rig the big one. It's sad that people buy all this BS.

The irony is that in Magic Johnson's rookie season, he turned the NBA upside down with his up-tempo "Showtime" style of play, averaging 18 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 7.2 assists per game, earning a starting spot on the NBA All-Star team, and leading his Los Angeles Lakers to an NBA championship, dominating the deciding Game 6 of the series with a remarkable 42 point, 15 rebound, 7 assist and 3 steal performance while playing at the center position, switching from his usual point guard role to fill in for starting center Kareem Abdul-Jabbar who had gone down with an ankle injury in Game 5. Needless to say, Magic was also named finals MVP. Some rookies truly are special. You'd think Magic Johnson, of all people, would remember that. But never underestimate the power of the Clinton machine to rewrite history when it's politically convenient.
