COLUMBUS, Ohio (Map, News) - The home of the Columbus Blue Jackets will open its doors for an evening memorial service to the hockey team's late owner.

The public tribute to steel executive John McConnell is expected to include remarks from former Ohio Congressman John Kasich (KAY'-sihk) and Columbus celebrity zookeeper Jack Hanna. Country singer Neal McCoy plans to perform.

The memorial at Nationwide Arena is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

McConnell died last month at the age of 84. The founder of Worthington Industries led a group of investors that brought the NHL franchise to Columbus, and he got a standing ovation when he dropped the puck at the Blue Jackets' first game in October 2000.
