SEATTLE (Map, News) - The success of a new streetcar line in Seattle's south Lake Union neighborhood has the city considering four more routes to create a network similar to one seven decades ago.
Transportation officials are making the pitch at a Tuesday city council committee meeting.
Streetcars could run through downtown, the University District, Fremont and Capitol Hill neighborhoods.
Each line would be three or four miles long and cost from $110 million to $180 million.
The council and Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels have not yet committed to a plan.
The south Lake Union streetcar opened in December after a year-and-a-half of construction. Property owners along the 1.3-mile route are paying half the $52 million cost.
